Ravenscroft Castle's Gatehouse.

Greetings from the Castle Guard.

A framed picture of the Guard.

You are currently located at the Gatehouse.

Historic Ravenscroft Castle lies on the shore of the sea, northwest of the Glastonbury region of Somerset, England --- an area traditionally associated with King Arthur and his famous Knights of the Round Table.

Some miles to the southeast, the Cadbury hillfort that may have been his fabled Camelot rises, and to the east, the great, astronomical monument known as Stonehenge stands upon the Salisbury Plain.

From Cadbury to Glastonbury stretches the route along which King Arthur and his warriors are still said to ride their Wild Hunt, phantom horsemen thundering from the roiling black clouds to descend to earth on a dark and savage night, their Underworld hounds howling eerily on the wind, precursors of death.

In truth, there really is a strange, otherworldly aura about this entire enigmatic district, with its towering tors, its sweeping moors, and its prehistoric graves and monuments.

When the ghostly grey mist tinged with spindrift floats wispily across the land and settles thickly in its hollows, you are almost certain you have stepped from the present into a past aeons old --- and purely Celtic.

But it is only by sheerest chance that you will stumble across Ravenscroft Castle --- for you will not find it marked on any map.

A map of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Like Tara --- once home to the yesteryear Irish high kings across the Irish sea --- and so many other ancient and mysterious sites, Ravenscroft Castle has now acquired an elusive, legendary air. Indeed, there are those who claim it never really existed at all --- except in the imagination of an old Celtic soul....

Yet, despite all that, you have found it, Traveler. You have indeed wandered far --- beyond the gossamer veils of time and place --- to reach the long-shadowed forest at the edge of the seashore where Ravenscroft Castle stands. Come in, then, and be welcome. Draw near to the hearth fire, and eat, drink, and be merry, while you hear the tale of this mist-enshrouded castle and its inhabitants.

Once you have rested and dined, you can explore to your heart's content, for although Ravenscroft Castle, it Grounds, its Sacred Well, and its Village cover a rather large area, it's still quite easy to find your way around --- especially with this ancient, magic scroll. It was hidden many centuries ago for safekeeping and believed lost forever. But fortunately, it was recently unearthed beneath the castle's secret passages. To visit any location on the scroll, just click on it, and you'll instantly be transported there. Should you ever lose your way at the castle, the navigational compass will always return you here. Good journey, Traveler.
